BMW cars with butterfly doors – BMW doesn't want to rely solely on the i8 Coupe to increase its electric car sales.

That's why they made a roadster version. This open-top electric sports car does look really cool. What made him excited was that he had the privilege of using a gullwing door, aka a butterfly. Because BMW adopted the butterfly door on the i8 Roadster.

If you glance at other cabriolet sports cars, none have gullwing doors like the i8 Roadster. Other cars only use standard doors that can be opened to the side only. So maybe this car will be the only open sports car with butterfly doors.

At the beginning of the development of the i8 Roadster, BMW still kept the gullwing door a secret. Even so, just to park the 'secret car' it has to be in a place away from the crowds, because BMW doesn't want the i8 Roadster info to leak prematurely.

If the coupe is converted into a roadster then you should use standard doors. But not for BMW. They chose to keep it rather than have to change it again to keep it beautiful.

Although the name is a roadster, this car can be an open car alias cabriolet. The roof can be opened and closed with a duration of 15 seconds with a maximum speed of 50 km / hour. But what is unique about this roof is that if the car's speed suddenly increases, the car's roof opening and closing mechanism will stop automatically.

BMW Car Response with butterfly door

Robert Irlinger as Head of BMW i sub brand BMW which handles sales of i3 and i8 electric cars in Palma de Mallorca, Spain said

“I REMEMBER DRIVING THE BMW I8 ROADSTER FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE HAD TO CHANGE THE VEHICLE IN SECRET PARKING BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE DON'T SEE WHEN WE ARE KEEPING THE GULLWING DOOR IN THE CAR. MANY BELIEVE TO OPEN A VEHICLE AND TURN THEM INTO A ROADSTER WE MUST HAVE NORMAL DOORS. BUT WE TRY FROM THE BEGINNING TO MAINTAIN THE GULLWING DOOR”
